The Korean Association for Canadian Studies (KACS)  was established on April 1, 1992 at the Institute of East and West Studies, Yonsei University where a total of 39 promoters attended to elect Prof. Myung-soon Shin of Yonsei president. Distinguished guests at the historic meeting included Hon. Leonard Edward, the then Canadian ambassador to Korea and Mr. Christian Pouyez, the then director of the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS).

KACS has been an ICCS member association since May 1994 and has hosted annual conferences to consolidate the foundation of Canadian Studies in Korea and to promote academic exchanges among scholars interested in Canada and related subjects. A wide variety of seminars and other scholarly activities have been organized by KACS to spread the knowledge of Canada to the Korean public by inviting academics, journalists, artists, government officials from Canada to give a talk on Canadian issues.

Past presidents of KACS are Prof. Myung-soon Shin (Yonsei University), Prof. Sang-Ran Lee (Sookmyung Women’s University), Prof. Joung-Yong Lee (Inha University), Prof. Yoon-Soo Won (Seoul National University), Prof. Moonchul Chang (Korea National Police University), Prof. Young-suk Simon Moon(Kangnam University), and Prof. Myung-bae Yeom (Chungnam National University). Prof. Eugene Lee (Sookmyung Women's Univ.), Prof. Eungi Kim (Korea Univ.), and Gwi-Nam Nam (Dongwon Univ.). The current president is Prof. Seung-Ryul Lee of Korea Aerospace University who has assumed the position since 2016.

KACS has a membership of about 200 along with two institutional members. Asian Journal of Canadian Studies(AJCS), the Association's journal, is published biannually. KACS has also provided support to academics and students who are interested in Canadian Studies and Canada-related topics.
